Surgical Removal of Wisdom Teeth

Surgical Removal of Wisdom Teeth - Gold Coast's Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Wisdom teeth are the most commonly removed teeth in Australia, but not all extractions are equal. Impacted and complex wisdom teeth require a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr Webber performs wisdom tooth surgery using the most modern, minimally invasive techniques available, ensuring the safest possible outcomes with minimal swelling, discomfort and recovery time.

Why should I get my wisdom teeth removed?

Wisdom teeth (third molars) are the last teeth to erupt, typically in the late teens or early twenties. Because modern jaws often lack the space to accommodate them, wisdom teeth frequently become impactedstuck beneath the gum or bone, partially erupted, or growing at an angle. Left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth can cause:

- Infection and abscess around the tooth and gum
- Damage to adjacent teeth and their roots
- Crowding, undermining orthodontic treatment
- Cysts or other pathology around the impacted tooth
- Ongoing pain and difficulty eating

WHY SEE A SPECIALIST?

While general dentists can remove straightforward wisdom teeth, complex and deeply impacted cases carry real risks, particularly when teeth sit close to the inferior alveolar nerve in the lower jaw.

Dr Webber is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS OMS) and has the surgical training, 3D imaging capability, and hospital access to manage even the most difficult cases safely.

YOUR OPTIONS FOR REMOVAL

Wisdom teeth can be removed under local anaesthetic in-rooms, or under general anaesthetic in hospital, depending on the difficulty of the case, the number of teeth involved, and your preference.

Dr Webber will discuss all options at your consultation and recommend the most appropriate and comfortable approach for your situation.

Nitrous oxide (happy gas) is also available for in-rooms procedures to help you relax. If you are having a local anaesthetic procedure, you may eat beforehand and drive yourself home afterwards.

What are the potential risks?

The risks of any surgery can be minimised by consulting, and subsequently being treated, by a Specialist in that particular field of surgery. Being a Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr Webber will provide a full and detailed explanation of your specific surgical situation at the initial consultation.

Where can my surgery be performed?

Dr Webber holds accreditation at multiple hospitals and day surgeries across the Gold Coast and Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, giving patients flexibility in where their surgery is performed.

General anaesthetic (asleep) procedures are performed at:

- Pindara Private Hospital, Benowa — Gold Coast
- Pindara Day Procedure Centre, Benowa — Gold Coast
- Tweed Day Surgery, Tweed Heads — NSW

For straightforward procedures under local anaesthetic, surgery can be performed in-rooms at our Pindara Specialist Suites consulting rooms (no hospital admission required.)

Dr Webber will recommend the most appropriate facility for your procedure at the time of consultation, based on the complexity of your case and your personal preference.
